Studies in Support of Advantages of Organic Food

There are many great advantages of organic food. A recent study discovered that organic fruit and vegetables have up to 50% more antioxidants (good stuff), which scientists believe could cut the risk of cancer and heart disease significantly. The study also claimed that organic food has more minerals such as iron and zinc, which also do the body good.

Disputing Claims about Advantages of Organic Food

Of course, there are other studies out there that dispute these claims about the advantages of organic food. Below is a list of eight great reasons to eat organic foods as much as possible, taking into account many of the different types of stress that are out there.

8 Awesome Advantages of Organic Food

Advantage #1: Better Taste (Experiential Stress)

Topping the list of advantages of organic food is taste. The taste of organic fruits and vegetables is often superior to any conventional produce, which are manipulated extensively to look good in the package and have a long shelf-life.

That’s why many top restaurants use organic produce in their menu. Today, most fruits and veggies are manipulated to look and stay good.

The strawberries from your ordinary supermarket may look great on a cake, but they often have virtually no taste. The experience of eating fresh, raw, organic strawberries is sublime.

Advantage #2: Safer for Babies and Children (Chemical Stress)

The average baby is born with 200 toxins and carcinogens in its body. By the time kids reach their 2nd year, most have more than passed the lethal limit for the toxins.

By feeding your children organic food, they will have about 1/6th the amount of carcinogens in their blood. Thus you will decrease the chances of illnesses significantly. Therefore, especially for infants and children, a raw organic food diet is incredibly important.

Advantage #3: No Irradiation (Digestive Stress)

Do you ever wonder why organic vegetables and fruits seem to spoil so much faster than produce from normal supermarkets? The reason is that many foods are irradiated.

This is yet another of the advantages of organic food. Irradiation kills bacteria and extends food life, but, it also alters the molecular structure and life force of the food. Some irradiation methods use radioactive substances, others high energy electrons or x-rays.

Conversely, one of the benefits of organic food is that they still have life force or living enzymes, which is great for digestion. So many people today suffer from inflammatory bowel disease.

On a side note, when you plant a seed from raw, organic produce, the seeds actually grow. Once you have irradiated the food, the seeds will no longer grow.  The enzymes are dead.  From a stress management perspective, the less you stress your food, the less you stress your body.

Advantage #4: Non-GMO (Physical Stress)

The vast majority of organic food producers don’t sell genetically modified (GM) food. It’s suspected that GM food causes allergies and decreases your immune system. The government is secretive, or at least vague, about the health consequences of GMO food. In some countries, it is illegal to sell some GM foods for human consumption.

Advantage #5: Animal Health & Welfare (Animal Stress)

Another one of the advantages of organic food is that the meats, fish and poultry are healthier for you. Organically raised animals are raised without dangerous chemicals, growth hormones or antibiotics.

Unfortunately, one of the most outrageous advantages of organic food is that organic farms treat their animals much more humane. Organic farmers tend to place great emphasis on animal welfare. Just for this reason alone, switching to an organic living makes sense.

Advantage #6: Environmental Concerns (Environmental Stress)

The advantages of organic food are especially striking if you consider the environment. Conventional farming methods erode soil and use dangerous pesticides that may take centuries before they’re gone.

For example, think of the DDT used in the not-so-olden days, thought to be harmless, but was later discovered to be extremely bad for health and wellness. Even though this pesticide has been forbidden for many years now, it’s still found in virtually all waters, human beings and animals in the world.

Advantage #7: Supporting Local Economies (Economic Stress)

Oftentimes, when we eat organic, we are supporting local growers. For example, I get my much of my produce from a local CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) Co-operative. I also access the local grain CSA indirectly and local organic meat farmers.

There is a big push for people to try to use the 100 Mile Diet (where you only source food from within that eating radius around your home), and I do work at this, although I am hardly perfect. However, I like to believe that supporting local growers is good for my local economy.

Advantage #8: Reduced Costs (Financial Stress)

The final item on this list of the advantages of organic food is that eating organic can actually help you reduce costs and save money. Here are three ways to get this done:

  1. Buying at local farmers’ markets is inexpensive compared to store-bought. Even better, grow it yourself.
  2. Raw, whole food is better regulated by the body causing you to eat less as compared to eating processed food.
  3. Eating raw, whole, organic foods leads to lower health-related costs, especially later in life.

Organic & Raw – The Best of the Best

The advantages of organic food are plentiful as outlined in the points above, but you can get even more bang for your grocery buck if your organic eating includes raw or close to raw foods.

Dr. Sears from the Dr. Sears Wellness Institute reports that raw fruits and vegetables are best for human consumption, meaning you can eat as much as you want, any time you want.

Overeating? Not a Problem!

But don’t worry about overeating. When food is consumed raw (in its natural state), a healthy human body is usually able to self-regulate making you feel full when you have eaten a good portion; however, as food is processed and then over-processed, it becomes harder to achieve the same goal. You get to enjoy all the advantages of organic food without any of the normal challenges associated with enjoying really great food.

In fact, sometimes the body can’t even recognize food as food. With fruits and vegetables, for example, once you boil, can, dry or freeze them, they lose a significant amount of their original food value. Many of the nutrients and living enzymes are destroyed during the processing and what was once healthy is now filled with stress-inducing chemicals.

To give you an example, let’s consider an apple. A washed, organic apple eaten raw with skin on is packed with nutrients and living enzymes. Once you peel it and make it into apple sauce, it no longer has as much nutritional value. If you take that same apple and bake it into a pie all packed with processed sugars and unhealthy grains, it is no longer very healthy at all.

Of course, there are ways to bake pies and prepare applesauce to retain the natural goodness of the apples, but usually, it takes extra time, energy, knowledge and money to make this happen.
